This starts out as an emotional tale about an apparently innocent woman undergoing interrogation to find out if she's really a homicidal zombie-alien.
As she holds up under the pressure, Torchwood go to harsher and harsher extremes, forcing the viewer to decide just how justifiable their methods are. At any point she might turn out to be a murderous alien, but what if she's not? What if this actually is just an innocent woman getting brutally tortured by the 'good' guys?
Well, it turns out that she's both. She's an alien all right, but one with a fake cover-personality. In other words, she genuinely has no idea that she's an alien, so when her arm suddenly turns into a large sabre, it's the latest in a series truly devastating events for her to deal with.
The second half of the episode reveals that there are others like her out there. (in Wales) Cue standard Torchwood gratuitous gore – wooooo, we're so adult.
What impresses much more though is the aliens' battle philosophy – to land on a planet, learn everything about it, and then just destroy them using whatever's available.
Well, if that's your plan, then Earth has left itself fairly wide-open, hasn't it?
Great concept, well acted, liked this.
